Dror Binder

an Israeli composer based in Vienna, Austria, is a multifaceted artist whose music has been shaped by diverse backgrounds and collaborations.

Having studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Music, the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, and the Music University of Vienna (mdw) under the guidance of many professors such as Judit Varga, Detlev Müller-Siemens, Gyula Fekete, Ayal Adler, and Michael Wolpe, Binder's foundation is rooted in a rich tapestry of musical traditions.

His artistic endeavors have led to impactful collaborations with renowned ensembles like the Kebyart Quartet (Spain), Meitar Ensemble (Israel), Kandinsky Quartett (Austria), Israel Chamber Orchestra (Israel), Sonus Cordis Quartet (Hungary), Aurora Quartett (Vienna), Tel Aviv Saxophone Quartet (Israel), and more.

Dror Binder's compositions have found resonance in prestigious venues and festivals worldwide, including Wien Modern (Vienna), CEME festival (Tel Aviv), UNICUM festival (Ljubljana), TARF festival (Tel Aviv), Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and beyond.

Recognized for his talent and creativity, Binder has been honored with various awards, including subsidies from the city of Vienna, the Centcelles Composition Award by Joan Magrané Figuera and the Kebyart Quartet, the Israeli Composers’ League “Klon” Prize for young composers, the Israel Conservatory of Music Composition Competition Prize, and full fellowships and merit grants from the Aspen Music Festival and the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, among others.

Born and raised in a small village in the Galilee, Israel, Binder's childhood was immersed in a diverse musical environment, ranging from Jewish prayers and traditional classical music to jazz, rock, and contemporary genres. In his own compositions, he weaves together these eclectic influences, creating a captivating and distinctive personal collage of musical expression.
